We have had the pleasure of having our superintendent of Rapid City Area Schools come into our classroom to teach Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement gives students the opportunity to learn about how businesses run and the chance to dream about what their future may hold. Local business people volunteer to work with a classroom, and we feel very lucky to have our own Dr. Mitchell working with us!

The questions was posed...How do we get the egg in the glass of water without touching the pan with our hands? The students then worked on some smaller trials to see if they could use what they learn from those experience and apply it to the egg drop. One was a plastic cup with a note card lying on top and a pen above the note card, how do you get the penny in the cup without touching the note card with your hands?
Then they had a pile of four nickels. They had to get the bottom nickel out with out touching any of the top nickels and without knocking all the others over, keeping them in their pile. Each of the students had a flat, dull plastic knife as a tool to assist them with these two tasks. |
