Today we learned about force, we looked at how gravity constantly pulls towards Earth. An object at rest stays at rest was evident, and a force is any push or pull on an object. In order to discover this we performed the following egg drop.
This week during team time we worked on the pattern for Anna Kendrick's song Cups. I had learned it years ago to a different pattern: Clap, clap, bumblebee Clap, up, down Clap, turn, touch, touch Change, pat, down We were then working on staying together so we can pass the cup at the end. Check it out! For the past two weeks we have been studying ways to collect data, put the data on a line plot and find mode, median, range, outliers, and identify information from line plots. The photos are of students working on their own data projects. They chose a survey question to research within the classroom. The data they collected was organized into line plot graphs, and from that data they were able to draw conclusions to their survey question.
Each student in the class has been given their own login to www.spellingcity.com. Weekly, each student will receive a new list of words that they are able to practice using the site. The list includes 5 words that they have chosen that fit the word skill we are focusing on that week, and the next 5 high frequency words that the child needs to practice. The students know their logins pretty well by now, but parents, if you would like me to send their login to you, please contact me.
Thank you! Every student in our class has a writer's notebook. This notebook is very important as it is used as a place to collect ideas and thoughts for the future stories we will write in class. The chart to the right shows some of the different types of entries we have learned about and that students are familiar with using. It is their responsibility to complete three entries a week of their choosing so that their ideas are readily available throughout the year. These notebooks become a very special place for the students, it is almost like their own secret world that only they can go into. The ideas for these entries come from Aimee Buckner's book, Notebook Know-How, which is an excellent tool to use to start writer's notebooks in the classroom. I have found it very useful for a number of things! In order to make our class blog more accessible and easy to use, it has been moved to this Weebly site. The photo gallery has pictures taken by students who have received the "Photographer for a Day" pictures and photos I may have taken. If you are interested in what is happening
